Back in the Swing of Things

So, I've been home a full month now.  It's been a month with no jetting off to other countries for the weekend, no ocean, no mountains, practically no Spanish, no classes, no bars/alcohol/botellones/discotecas, no gorgeous park to run in, no little spanish three-year-olds invading my room, no exploring inhabited caves or winding, maze-like neighborhoods, and barely any time with the friends I grew to love in Spain.  No, this past month has been very different than the former 5.  I've seen my family, pretty much all of them.  That's been nice.  I've met up with some very missed friends from the states.  That has been awesome.  I went on a mini-vaca to Branson for a family reunion - - not the most exciting.  And I've worked.  worked my butt off trying to scrimp and save back money again after blowing nearly all my savings over the last semester.

I have definitely readjusted to American life again.  Here on this Fourth of July, I'm pretty content to be home.  Arriving home at first, it was a little overwhelming to have everything that I missed for five months all sitting right in front of me.  I could eat at a normal time again, I could speak English to strangers and they could understand me no problem, I could sleep in my big comfy bed again, I could cuddle with my dog, etc, etc. It was nice to come home to a room that was just as I had left it, Christmas presents and candy sitting around and everything.  But even with this homecoming to all that was  familiar and dear, I still immediately missed Spain and things there as well.  Everything reminded me of a person or a story from my adventures or daily life in Spain.  It was incredible.

After a few days back home, the whole memory of my study abroad began to feel like a dream, some kind of great, long dream from which I had awakened.  Everything was so similar as to how I left it that it felt as if I had never left.  It was more like I had just gotten home from school at ISU.  I couldn't believe that I had not even been in the country for half a year, that I hadn't spoken to so many people in such a long time.  I could not comprehend that all my adventures and experiences were real and had actually happened... to me.  Strange feelings.  So many people have no idea of what I have done in my life up to this point.  It's kind of  a secret almost.  I like it.  Sometimes, especially when ppl I'm serving at Cracker Barrel complain about little travel details, I want to share some of what I've gone through.  I want to tell everybody and encourage them to get going too.  Other times, I like keeping it to myself, something for people to discover about me slowly and as I let them, if I want to let them.   As Tracey would put it, I sometimes feel like I 'have something up my sleeve.'

Anyway, since I've been back, though I've enjoyed being home for a bit, I'm craving to go back.  I truly feel like I left much unfinished business out there.  There is so much more to do, see, and experience.  I just barely got a taste.  I find myself looking up cheap international flights in my spare time now...all the time.  I'm searching for excuses to get out there again.  I want to see as much as Europe as possible then move on to other continents.  This is one big world to see.  I feel like I'm wasting my time if I don't try to keep going with the traveling now.  For instance, I only have one summer left as a carefree college student with no real responsibilities or anything holding me down.  I want to take it for what I can.  I'm doing something exciting next summer... i'm just not sure how or what yet...  This travel bug is a persistent one.
(my mommy doesn't like it.)

España, te echo de menos muchisimo.  Quiero regresar a tu tierra, cultura, y gente.

side note:   I'm so nervous about actually going to real school again... last semester was quite the vacation.
